ESAA Elementary School

Welcome to the Elementary School for the Arts and Academics. Our mission is that children learn in many different ways and every child learns through varied and multiple paths. Our school engages children with innovative, team-based teaching and the seamless integration of the arts with the academic. At ESAA, children learn to see the world in new ways, are encouraged to think deeply about it and wonder at its endless possibilities, thereby creating a desire to discover more.

ESAA is a school that recognizes that students learn through a variety of ways often called multiple intelligences which consist of musical intelligence, bodily-kinesthetic intelligence, logical mathematical intelligence, verbal-linguistic intelligence, spatial intelligence, interpersonal intelligence, and intrapersonal intelligence. Our philosophy of education allows students to learn through the multiple intelligences by pairing the arts and the academics. This allows students the opportunity to learn and express knowledge in a way that plays off of their strengths while still learning the skills necessary to be successful in school.

ESAA offers a rigorous academic program with a focus on innovative thinking and creative problem solving using the multiple intelligences. Students are taught and encouraged to become independent, self-directed learners in an engaging 21st century format with a focus on literacy and numeracy. Our approach allows students to make connections, to notice patterns, to analyze, and to problem solve through multiple perspectives. Students begin to learn to develop their own reasoning around concepts and ideas. A collaborative learning environment that uses visible thinking routines creates experience in articulating their thoughts and reasoning.

ESAA 2nd and 3rd Graders Skype with Lightning Thief Playwright

ESAA 2nd and 3rd graders recently had the opportunity to attend a matinee showing of Theatreworks’ The Lightning Thief at the Weill Center.  Exposure to theater is important to everything from developing creativity and imagination to lengthening attention span.  It’s also a powerful connector to reading.  We were fortunate that our students had the chance to attend a live production of a book so many of them enjoy.

The Étude Group's Maker Movement

There is a lot of talk in education these days about “makerspaces.” It seems to be a new buzz word. The reality is that while it may be a new concept for some in the education community, it’s one of the foundations for The Étude Group. While the concepts of making and creating are not new for us, our role in sharing this concept at a greater level with the community is.
