Mosaic and IDEAS students explore sustainability

Mosaic School students participated in a Lexicon for Sustainability event held at the Mead Public Library Wednesday, April 22. IDEAS Academy Botany students curated the event. It was set up like a scavenger hunt encouraging students to read the various art posters and talk to different student speakers. Mosaic Students eagerly looked at the different parts of each piece asking various questions about the ideas presented.

“It’s given me a better understanding of organic things and how they work,” said one Mosaic student.

The event was sponsored by Mead Public Library, Nourish and Greg Zahn of Circle Union Farm.

Lexicon for Sustainability is a multimedia project aimed at increasing awareness and starting conversations within communities about sustainability. In addition to pop up shows, like the one attended by the Mosaic community, founders Douglas Gayeton and Laura Howard-Gayeton have also created a series of short films called “Know Your Food” which aired on PBS.

The pop up gallery on Earth Day 2015 is the first event in a year long collaboration between Nourish, Lexicon for Sustainability and the IDEAS Academy Ecology & Art students. The goal is to start, nourish, and grow the conversation about sustainability in our community. The tools for this work include education and art. A perfect fit for IDEAS Academy.
