Mosaic Chess Tournament

The first Mosaic School Chess Tournament on St. Patrick’s Day drew 85 participants from 15 schools.

First place in the K3 division went to Kohler Elementary School with 19.5 points. In second place was Sheboygan Christian School with 14.5 points. The third-place finisher was Jackson Elementary School with 13.5 points.

In the K7 division, first place went to Sheboygan Christian School with 18 points. In second place was host Mosaic with 16 points. The third-place finisher was Kohler Elementary School with 14 points.

“Through the efforts of many, we felt the Mosaic School Chess Tournament was a huge success,” said Stuart Howland, who coaches the Mosaic Chess Team. “I would like to give a shout out to Allen Wanek, our tournament director, for keeping the tournament running smoothly with his work at the computer to run pairings and standings.”

Howland also credited area chess team parents and coaches for their assistance and local businesses for their concession donations.

“Most of all, I would like to thank the Mosaic Chess Team parents who have been helping me plan this event for the past six weeks,” he added. “Without their help, this tournament would have been inconceivable.”

“We look forward to hosting this event again next year,” Howland said.

Members of the Mosaic Chess Team will have an opportunity to compete in two tournaments next month: the Seventh Annual Wisconsin All Girls Chess Tournament in Port Washington on April 21 and the First Annual Sheboygan County Grade Level Championship at Sheboygan Christian High School on April 28.
