Jeff Tweedy will bring his unique combination of American rock and alt country to the Stefanie H. Weill Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, April 29, 2016 at 7:30 p.m.

This performance is presented in conjunction with The Étude Sessions, and will support the non profit Etude Education Group of Sheboygan, WI in memory of Troy Tousey and his initiatives to nurture live music and the Etude school in Sheboygan.

Jeff Tweedy is "one of the most daring songwriters of his generation" and his band Wilco is "vital, adventurous . . . breaking new stylistic ground with each ambitious and creatively restless album" - Salon.com.

Since starting Wilco in 1994 Tweedy has written original songs for nine Wilco albums and collaborated with folk singer Billy Bragg to bring musical life to three albums-full of Woody Guthrie-penned lyrics in the Mermaid Avenue series. Wilco’s latest release, Star Wars, is a 2016 Grammy nominee for Best Alternative Album. In 2014 Tweedy released Sukierae, a musical collaboration with his 18-year-old son and drummer Spencer Tweedy.

As a fundraiser for The Étude Group schools, the Étude Sessions supports students’ learning through transformative experiences in the arts and academics that would not otherwise be available to students in a public school. The funds from the 2014-2015 season helped students envision their professional lives beyond of high school through participation in creative writing festivals and campus visits eight different colleges in Wisconsin. A portion of the funds also helped in sending students on a service-learning trip to Nicaragua in June. Our intention is to make these experiences accessible to all students in our schools, 80% of whom are first generation college students and over 50% of whom qualify for free or reduced lunch.

Our vision for growth through Étude Sessions includes expanding our College Readiness, International Travel, and Artist in Residence programs as well as providing professional assets to a diverse range of student-driven projects. For example, legal advice for an engineering student seeking a patent or environmental consulting for a first grade class installing and monitoring a garden to help monarch migration. These interactions with professionals help make projects more authentic and they give students insight into how to think as professionals do. These relationships also create opportunities.

Troy Tousey, founder of Open Mind Studios of Sheboygan, WI was an avid community supporter and passionate live music fan.  Troy hosted house concerts in his backyard and attended hundreds of live performances during his years at Northwestern University, and while living in Colorado and Sheboygan.  Troy was vice president of the Etude Group Governing Board, part of the Sheboygan Area School District, at the time of his death in June of 2012.  Troy dreamed of presenting great shows at the Weill Center, and was extremely passionate about the Etude School and Etude Sessions.
