Governing Board Meeting, March 2015

We are always working to increase our communication with you, our families and the larger community we serve. You might have noticed changes in the appearance of our website and in the flow of information from our blogs to social media this year. We have been working with a local design firm, Dynamic, to update our online presence and make it easier to communicate all that happens within our schools. Our approach is to publish information to blogs that will automatically be posted to our Facebook and Twitter accounts. Additionally, you can sign up for our blogs to be sent directly to your email inbox.

With this website and our blogs established, I see an added opportunity to better communicate the activities of our Governing Board. To this end, we have created a page with the overview of our Governing Board including a listing of board members and minutes from our meetings. Additionally, I will be publishing updates to the blog after every board meeting regarding the actions and discussion of our Governing Board. I hope you find this informative.

The Governing Board's focus has been to reestablish ourselves as a working board this year, following the departure of a number of board members due to moves out of the state. We have focused a great deal of effort on establishing a clear strategic plan and a committee structure to support that plan. We currently have two board committees focused on our fundraising goal and our enrollment goal. Additionally, we have established a leadership team made up of teachers from all three schools who will oversee the goals and plans for our instructional model.

During the last Governing Board meeting each of the three teams reported. Below is a summary of their report:

Leadership Team: The leadership team is currently focused on the academic portion of the strategic plan. We have drafted a set of goals that measure the effectiveness of our academic program and are currently developing the outcomes that will support these goals. A draft of these outcomes will be presented at the April board meeting.

Enrollment Committee: The enrollment committee is currently working with a goal that each school function at full enrollment. To accomplish this, they are looking at communication as a major first step. To this end, our enrollment committee has pursued the creation of formal communications/enrollment position with a job description to support this. Additionally, the committee is looking at strategies to engage our current parents.

Fundraising Committee: Our fundraising goal is to raise $5000 beyond the SASD per pupil allocation to fund programs such as our college visits, scholarships for international travel and summer programs for students in need, and residencies within all of our schools. To accomplish this, the committee is focusing its efforts on supporting the Étude Sessions and growing the audience.

The Governing Board will continue to its efforts on the development of our strategic plan through June. These meetings will bring together each of the teams working on these goals for presentations of outcomes and feedback sessions. Our meetings are open to the public and are held in the Sheboygan Area School District's Central Office Building in room 3307 on the 2nd Monday of each month at 6:00pm.
